Fighting delays on the way to DIARe: “Peña Boulevard: Expand or not?” Aug. 13 news storyWhen Peña Boulevard was designed, it was meant to be a service road for Denver International Airport. It was not intended to become a major artery for the housing that has been built since the mid-1990s. The question is: What should be done, and who should pay for it?An easy solution would be to restrict access to Peña. If one could only enter Peña Boulevard from Interstate 70 and E-470, the only vehicles on the road would be going to and from the airport as was originally planned. Traffic on Peña would be instantly reduced by 27%. But this would not please commuters or the off-airport hotels. If access is not restricted, additional lanes must be added. But why should the airport pay for this? The prime beneficiaries would be developers who will build even more houses which will eventually re-create the same issue of congestion in the future. More lanes have never been a long-term solu...Several California school districts and colleges closed Monday due to Tropical Storm Hilary

Southern California residents dealt mostly with an array of inconveniences on Sunday — high water in spots, road closures and even the suspension of some DoorDash deliveries — as they braced for Tropical Storm Hilary to enter its most intense chapter that night.“It’s just like a normal storm. It’s a little bit rainy and windy,” Lynette Paoli, a resident of the San Bernardino Mountains community of Forest Falls, said late Sunday afternoon as she looked out her windows. “I hope it’s nothing like they are saying it’s going to be. I’m praying it bypasses us.”The inland mountains and deserts, however, were expected to receive the storm’s most punishing rain and strong winds on Sunday night and into Monday morning, and flash-flood warnings and evacuation orders were in effect.Other Southern California counties were also expected to receive heavier rainfall than during the daylight hours, the National Weather Service said. The rain is likely to move out around noon on Monday.Just how much d...California business owner killed after argument over a Pride flag hanging outside her clothing store, deputies say
