DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Thousands of Iowa residents would be expected to lose Medicaid and food stamp benefits under a bill given final legislative approval Thursday and sent to Gov. Kim Reynolds. The state House approved the bill, which would change eligibility requirements and require more checks that people qualify for benefits, ultimately resulting in the removal of an estimated 1% of recipients and saving the state roughly $8 million annually beginning in 2027. A legislative analysis found that 1% would translate to the removal of about 8,000 Medicaid recipients and 2,800 recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps. The Senate previously approved the measure, which passed both chambers with only Republican support. The bill now goes to Reynolds, a Republican who is expected to sign it into law.Republican Rep. Joel Fry said the bill takes nothing away from people who are eligible for benefits.“If you’re eligible for the benefit, you...NTI remove twins with Kingston ties from enrolment list, ask for investigation

DENVER (KDVR) — This week marks 100 days since the 118th Congress took over in Washington D.C. but one of Colorado’s new representatives may already be in the hot seat. House republicans are targeting Rep. Yadira Caraveo (D-Colorado) and her seat in Colorado’s competitive 8th Congressional District in 2024.We talk with Rep. Caraveo about Republicans aiming for her seat, and much more, this week on Colorado Point of View. The National Republican Congressional Committee listed Rep. Caraveo’s seat as one of 37 that are “vulnerable” in 2024. Meanwhile the conservative, “American Action Network” launched a campaign a last month pushing the Congresswoman to vote for the House GOP’s “Lower Energy Costs Act,” which would increase domestic oil production, a key industry in the 8th District. She ultimately voted against it.“But the concentration of lowering costs was not really what was in the bill itself,” Rep. Caraveo said. “What they were doing is attacking things and coming at things in a...Florida Legislature passes 6-week abortion ban, DeSantis supports it

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Republican-dominated Florida Legislature on Thursday approved a ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, a proposal supported by GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis as he prepares for an expected presidential run.DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law. Florida currently prohibits abortions after 15 weeks.A six-week ban would give DeSantis a key political victory among Republican primary voters as he prepares to launch a presidential candidacy built on his national brand as a conservative standard bearer. The policy would also have wider implications for abortion access throughout the South in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last year overturning Roe v. Wade and leaving decisions about abortion access to states. Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi have banned abortion at all stages of pregnancy, while Georgia forbids the procedure after cardiac activity can be detected, which is around six weeks.“We have the opportunity to lead the natio...Malaysia Babydoll Foxx talks Miami Beach Pride, new single, competing on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Hours before the Yankees’ series-opener against the Twins, a reporter asked Aaron Boone about his team’s well-documented dominance over Minnesota.“There’s that question,” the expecting manager initially replied. From there, his answer downplayed the fact that, no matter how good the Twins have been, the Yankees have had their number for a while now.“They’re a really good team,” Boone continued. “That team we’re playing the next four days has a chance to be really good this year. They got a formidable rotation. They got a back end, they got star players. So I don’t even look at that at all.“I understand the history of it going back, but every team’s a little bit different.”Things were certainly different Thursday, as the first-place Twins turned the tables on the Yankees with a nine-run first inning and an 11-2 win in the Bronx.
