Citing its ‘vulgarity or violence,’ Utah district bans Bible By Sam Metz | Associated PressSALT LAKE CITY — The Good Book is being treated like a bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for younger children.The 72,000-student Davis School District north of Salt Lake City removed the Bible from its elementary and middle schools while keeping it in high schools after a committee reviewed the scripture in response to a parental complaint. The district has removed other titles, including Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and John Green’s “Looking for Alaska,” following a 2022 state law requiring districts to include parents in decisions over what constitutes “sensitive material.”A district spokesperson, Chris Williams, said it doesn’t differentiate between requests to review books. Suspect wanted in shooting of 4-year-old identified by Oakland PD (KRON) -- The Oakland Police Department has identified a suspect wanted in connection to the shooting of a 4-year-old girl earlier this week. On Friday, OPD identified the suspect as 19-year-old Lamarion Griffin of Oakland. Mugshot released of San Jose crime spree suspect; 3 dead Griffin is wanted in connection to the shooting that occurred on Wednesday, May 31 just before 9 p.m. in the 3400 block of 68th Avenue. The victim in that shooting, a 4-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. Oakland PD and CrimeStoppers of Oakland are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. San Francisco to open new 'command center' targeting open air drug markets SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The City of San Francisco will be opening a new command center near Civic Center that will target open air drug markets, the SF Department of Emergency Management confirmed Friday. The center is related to a targeted initiative that's a joint effort involving the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the San Francisco Police Department, and the Department of Public Health. KRON4's Focus on Fentanyl The targeted initiative was launched on April 17, "in order to more closely coordinate and direct resources to better understand and disrupt open air drug markets," the DEM told KRON4.
