QUEBEC — Two Quebec teachers unions say their leadership has approved a partial agreement with the government after weeks of participating in larger public sector strikes. The Fédération des syndicats de l’enseignement and Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers, which together represent over 100,000 educators, say they won’t make the details of the proposal public until their members have a chance to voice their opinions. But the unions do make clear the tentative deal doesn’t cover teacher salaries. That and other issues are still the subject of the unions’ joint negotiations with the government under a broader alliance of labour groups known as the common front, which represents hundreds of thousands of Quebec public sector workers. The common front has already carried out several multi-day strikes in the last two months and has threatened an unlimited strike next year if it’s unable to reach an agreement with the provincial government.A separate union repre...Want to get through airport security faster? However we try to slice it up, this recent run of form from Nathan MacKinnon is as statistically dominant as he’s ever been in a Colorado Avalanche uniform.MacKinnon enters Saturday night’s game against the Coyotes in the midst of a career-best 17-game point streak, which is also three back of tying the best mark in franchise history since moving to Denver.Avs coach Jared Bednar sidestepped a question late Thursday night about whether MacKinnon is the best hockey player in the world right now after he had four goals and an assist in a dramatic 6-4 victory against Ottawa. He had a similar response when asked if this was the best MacKinnon has ever played after he had four points in a win a week ago against San Jose.Mikko Rantanen was less hesitant to address the idea.“I think the best, probably,” Mikko Rantanen said when asked where this recent run ranks for MacKinnon. “The way he’s playing and skating and making plays, being hard to play against and def...Kickin’ It with Kiz: Dear Santa, could you please bring us a new Rockies owner that has a clue?

Dear Santa: Please line up a buyer for the Colorado Rockies who actually loves baseball and doesn’t just use the sport as a business write-off.Ron, baseball nutKiz: While the Los Angeles Dodgers have committed more than a billion dollars to Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, could Rockies owner Dick Monfort sell you a $3 beer to cry in on the party deck prior to opening day of the 2024 season? I don’t know if there’s anyone on the planet who can spend with the Dodgers, who seem to think writing checks is more essential to a World Series contender than throwing strikes. The problem with Monfort isn’t that he’s cheap, but that he doesn’t have a clue on how to build a winning baseball team.I’ll keep it simple. My Christmas sports wish is for Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog to return to game action.Nate, hockey nutKiz: The only thing the Avs need more than a legit second-line center is the leadership of Landeskog on the ice and in the room. ...Shoppers scrambling to purchase last-minute gifts at SoCal retailers
