Lee 'troubled' by Newsom comments about appointing a caretaker to Senate (KRON) -- Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) said she is "troubled" by remarks Gov. Gavin Newsom made about appointing an interim replacement for Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein, 90, is not running for reelection. Lee, along with Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) and Rep. Katie Porter (D-Irvine), is one of three leading candidates to fill the veteran senator's seat.Newsom has previously stated that if Feinstein were to resign, he would appoint a Black woman to the seat. In an appearance on "Meet the Press" this weekend, Newsom reiterated that position. However, when pressed by the show's host, Newsom said he would not appoint any of the people currently running for the seat, which would preclude Lee from being appointed."I don't want to get involved in the primary," said Newsom in remarks cited by Politico, adding it would be "completely unfair to the Democrats that have worked their tail off."While Newsom stopped short of saying outright that he would appoint a caretaker to the seat, he decli...

Russell Wilson’s improved play is the silver lining to the Broncos’ latest loss to the Raiders DENVER (AP) — Despite coach Sean Payton’s dud of a Denver debut, the Broncos’ season opener showed his restoration of quarterback Russell Wilson is going well. Now, if Wilson can get Jerry Jeudy and Greg Dulcich back on the field, he might be able to throw for more than the 177 yards he did Sunday in Denver’s 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.Jeudy was inactive after being limited in practice upon his return from a pulled right hamstring late in camp and Dulcich left after apparently pulling a hamstring on the opening drive of the second half. He missed seven games as a rookie last year because of chronic hamstring issues.Wilson managed just 52 yards in the air after halftime.“Obviously if you have Dulcich in and Jerry, I mean they’re …” Wilson said before stopping himself. “I still think we should have won that game.”His last drive was Denver’s only three-and-out, however, and the defense couldn’t get the ball back to Wilson as Jimmy Garoppolo a...

The Tennessee Titans know what they need to fix after 1-point loss in opener NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans realize they have to play better and know exactly what they need to fix. They also aren’t panicking after a one-point loss on the road in one of the NFL’s toughest places to play. Coach Mike Vrabel said Monday that new right guard Daniel Brunskill reminded him after their 16-15 loss in New Orleans that the San Francisco 49ers also lost their opener a year ago and still reached the NFC championship game. “We need to keep improving,” Vrabel said. “And we say this all the time. The teams that improve are going to be the ones that are playing in January.”The Titans didn’t score a single touchdown with Ryan Tannehill playing his worst game. That didn’t help an offense that ranked 28th in the NFL last season in scoring.Vrabel made a bunch of offseason moves in trying to boost the offense, firing coordinator Todd Downing and promoting Tim Kelly along with making other position changes. The Titans held the ball...
