I was dying to go to the Cruel World festival in Los Angeles. To me, it made my 80s dreams come true– Blondie, Devo, The Church, The Psychedelic Furs, Missing Persons, and so many more. All I knew was I HAD to go, but didn’t think I was actually going to be able to get a ticket. Much to my surprise, my producer was able to get us tickets to go. It was quite possibly the best day of my life. Getting to see the brilliance that is Devo was truly a blessing. I swear I didn’t even know what music was until I got to see Devo live. The main band that I wanted to see, Bauhaus, started right on time. The lights slowly turned red on the stage and the crowd fell silent. Right as that happened, clouds started to roll into the night sky as a low droning note started to play. It was so eerie and almost unreal. It felt l...

Ford’s F-150 leaves tough choices for buyers seeking EV tax credits

Ford’s F-150 leaves tough choices for buyers seeking EV tax credits By Kyle Stock | Bloomberg NewsAmericans love a Ford pickup truck; it’s one of the few constants of the car business. So it was a huge win on Tuesday when Ford’s F-150 Lightning became one of just 10 vehicles to qualify for the full $7,500 in tax breaks laid out by the US Inflation Reduction Act. Dozens of other electric cars and trucks didn’t make the cut, either because they aren’t manufactured in the US or don’t use American parts and pieces. The tax credits also only apply to new EVs with a sticker price below $55,000, or trucks and SUVs priced under $80,000. And that’s where Americans’ truck lust is butting up against their taste for high-end trims. While the average gasoline-powered F-150 now sells for almost $63,000 — 25% more than five years ago — the electric version commands a premium of almost 30% over that, selling for $80,300 on average last month, according to Edmunds. That means roughly half of Ford’s electric pickups are too fancy for federal incentives.“Honestly, I’m ...

Why renaming roads is more complicated than you think: Roadshow Q: You are driving on Hostetter, which becomes Murphy, then Brokaw and eventually Airport Boulevard. Why don’t they use one name for this road? It’s the same physical street.Jeff Hack, San JoseA: Some road segments and their names date back to the valley’s farming days. The roads may have crossed city lands and county lands and when roads connected, agencies may not have coordinated naming.Today, the process for street naming and renaming is highly coordinated. Renaming a road involves the post office, fire department, county, and city building division. It requires public hearings, buy-in from affected property owners, and a funding source. Businesses must publicize their new address, if it changes. Address numbers on a road must be in sequence, so hundreds of property owners could be affected, if road segments were renamed to be consistent.Keeping road names as they are is often the preferred path for the people who are most impacted.Q: I have another question.
