Broward woman gives birth to son on her birthday — 8 years after giving birth to daughter on the same day A South Florida woman gave birth to a boy on her birthday, eight years after her daughter was born on the same day.It won’t be hard for Marianna de la Cruz and her family to save the date, since she, her newborn son and her 8-year-old daughter share the same birthday: Jan. 4.De la Cruz spoke with 7News on Friday from her room at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital in Margate.“Everyone was just, like, excited,” she said as she cradled Eden, her newborn son. “The second birthday at the same hospital.”Cameras showed three big helium balloons near de la Cruz’s. Two read “Happy Birthday” and one reads, “Welcome New Baby.”A happy birthday, indeed, for the mother and Eden, all 6 pounds, 15 ounces of this little bundle of joy.De la Cruz said Eden arrived about two weeks early. Kevin Warren — facing key decisions with the Chicago Bears — announces $1M donation from foundation to Lurie Children’s Hospital Kevin Warren received the phone call in the middle of the night while in his hotel room on the Minnesota Vikings’ trip to Green Bay in October 2014.The Chicago Bears President and CEO, then with the Vikings, knew what the news would be. His older sister Carolyn Elaine Warren-Knox had died of brain cancer. Warren’s subsequent trips to Green Bay always have been emotional with the memory of a woman 16 years his senior who was like a second mother to him. That’s part of the reason Warren and his wife, Greta, stood on the 18th floor at Lurie Children’s Hospital on Friday in the middle of a hectic Week 18 for the Bears. Warren has plenty to evaluate as the Bears look toward the future, with decisions about their coaching staff, quarterback and stadium looming. But with the Bears set to go to Green Bay to play the Packers in the season finale Sunday, Warren wanted to announce their latest initiative to honor his sister’s wish for them to help cancer patients. Medfield clamps down on Norwood

Medfield clamps down on Norwood NORWOOD – In a matchup between two of the top girls’ basketball programs in the Tri-Valley League, Medfield showed why the hype is warranted. In a gritty defensive effort, the Warriors limited the Norwood offense to less than 10 points in each of the four quarters en route to a 52-25 win. Medfield was able to exceed 10 points in each quarter, but head coach Mark Nickerson said the strong play on the defensive end of the court was what drove the offensive output.“We defended well, we clogged the paint,” Nickerson said. “We did a great job defending perimeter shots while staying inside, not giving up open lanes to the hoop. Our guards worked really hard at the top, it was a great rotation with great communication.”That doesn’t mean the game was free of adversity for the Warriors, however. Freshman guard Naya Annigeri had a strong start in the opening quarter, scoring five points and helping Medfield jump out to a sizeable lead. However, a scrum for a loose ball resulted in a mout...

Thousands of WWII-era munitions found under water in survey of Southern California dump site LOS ANGELES (AP) — Underwater dump sites off the Los Angeles coast contain thousands of barrels of World War II-era munitions including anti-submarine weapons and smoke devices, marine researchers announced Friday.A vast survey of known offshore sites in April identified the munitions. The survey was a high-tech follow up in a region known to have been the dumping ground for industrial and chemical waste from the 1930s through the 1970s.Two underwater vehicles, one autonomous and the other remotely controlled, used sonar and high definition video to scan 135 square miles (350 square kilometers) of the sea floor, where mysterious boxes and barrels were strung out between the mainland and Santa Catalina Island, researchers said.A 2021 survey had uncovered more than 25,000 “barrel-like objects” on the sea floor that possibly contained DDT and other toxic chemicals. High levels of the toxic chemical were previously found in sediments and marine mammals in the region, and DDT has been li...
