State fire marshal urges Missourians not to set off fireworks amid drought JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It's hot and dry and because of drought conditions across Missouri. The state fire marshal is asking residents to avoid using fireworks this Fourth of July.As drought conditions continue to worsen, the state's top fire official is warning Missourians, anything that can cause a spark, like a cigarette or firework, have a greater change of starting a fire and because of this dry weather, it can spread twice as fast."We are alarmed at the conditions and if people aren't wise and considerate of that, we could see some dramatic situations," Missouri State Fire Marshal Tim Bean said.With nearly all of Missouri currently experiencing a drought, firework safety is even more pivotal this year. Under state statute, Bean does not have the authority to prohibit firearms because of the drought. (AP) — A death penalty case will continue against a Missouri man who is citing new DNA evidence in his innocence claim for the stabbing death of a former newspaper reporter, the governor announced Thursday.Republican Gov. Mike Parson dissolved a panel of five former judges who had been tasked with reviewing Marcellus Williams' case and ended a stay on his execution. No execution date has been set yet.Williams was convicted of killing former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Lisha Gayle during a 1998 burglary at her home in University City. Burbank police seeking additional victims of alleged sex offender  Detectives with the Burbank Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating additional victims of a 54-year-old man arrested in Dec. 2022 for inappropriate sexual contact with minors, authorities announced Thursday.  Artur R. Suslow's arrest came after allegations that his continued sexual crimes dated back more than a decade, according to a BPD news release.  The 54-year-old has been charged with two counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 years old by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.  He is currently in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department where his bail was set at $1.55 million. Suslow is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in August.  Artur R. Suslow, 54, is described as a white male standing 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. Steve L McClune Pronounced Dead in Two-Vehicle Crash on Summit Valley Road [Hesperia, CA] Vehicle Collision Between Agate Road and Telephone Canyon Road Kills 57-Year-Old Hesperia ManHESPERIA, CA (June 29, 2023) – Monday evening, Steve L McClune died following a two-vehicle collision on Summit Valley Road.Fire units of the San Bernardino County Fire responded to the crash on May 22nd, at around 6:47 p.m., between Agate Road and Telephone Canyon Road.Upon arrival, fire officials determined that a silver 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander and a white 2019 Chevy Traverse collided near Bandicoot Trail. Vira Zheltonozhko Pronounced Dead Following Pedestrian Accident on Antelope Road [Citrus Heights, CA] Pedestrian-Auto Collision near Auburn Boulevard Left 82-Year-Old Woman DeadCITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (June 29, 2023) – Tuesday night, a pedestrian accident on Antelope Road left Vira Zheltonozhko with fatal injuries. The deadly collision happened at around 8:20 p.m. along eastbound Antelope Road, between Lauppe Lane and Auburn Boulevard. Responding officers discovered the pedestrian lying on the sidewalk with major injuries. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the life-saving efforts of the first responders. In addition, multiple utility poles and a traffic light received significant damage from the collision.Police said the driver involved did not sustain any injuries.
