East play-in field set, Embiid poised to win scoring title The Eastern Conference play-in tournament matchups are set, as are the top four seeds in the Western Conference. Also apparently decided: The NBA’s scoring race.Brooklyn sealed the No. 6 seed in the East on Friday night, which locked Miami into No. 7 and the play-in tournament. The Nets will play Philadelphia in Round 1 of the playoffs — meaning Brooklyn will be up against a soon-to-be two-time scoring champion.Philadelphia center Joel Embiid — he didn’t play in Friday’s overtime win over Atlanta and there’s no need for him to in the 76ers’ regular-season finale on Sunday, either — will almost certainly finish the season averaging 33.1 points. The only player who had a realistic chance entering Friday to catch him was Dallas’ Luka Doncic. But he played sparingly Friday, changed into street clothes at halftime of the Mavericks’ loss to Chicago — one that eliminated Dallas from postseason contention and assured Oklahoma City the No. 10 spot in the play-in tournament. Community frustrated over growing trash problem along South Platte River Trail ENGLEWOOD, Colo (KDVR) -- Neighbors are frustrated over a growing trash problem along the South Platte River Trail in Englewood. Dave Baugh said the wind gusts constantly pick up trash from the nearby Waste Management facility. "It’s been going on for years,” Baugh said. “It’s just an unfortunate circumstance that this Waste Management facility is right next to the river, but on windy days a lot of that wind whips up the trash and it ends up right in the river.” This photo was taken on March 31 after the high winds blew tons of trash from the Waste Management facility along the South Platte River Trail. Editorial: Few EV models eligible for new tax credit

Editorial: Few EV models eligible for new tax credit If you’re in the market for a new car, wouldn’t you be more likely to buy a climate-friendly electric model if you could save thousands of dollars off the sticker price? That’s the idea behind electric vehicle subsidies authorized as part of the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress last year, which are supposed to accelerate the fight against climate change by making zero-emission cars more affordable. But that’s a far cry from what’s likely to happen. Under complicated new rules released by the Treasury Department, only a handful of more than 90 electric car models for sale in the U.S. will be eligible for incentives that allow car buyers to claim a tax credit of up to $7,500.For that you can thank U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin III, D-W.Va. Restrictions on sourcing battery parts and critical minerals were added to the legislation in order to win his support and, at least theoretically, encourage domestic manufacturing and reduce the electric vehicle supply chain’s dependence on China....

Franks: Crew of the Titanic also used poor judgment This April is the 111th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. That tragedy did not just happen by chance.Arrogant people who boasted that the ship was invincible played a major role. The “best engineers” during those times determined that even if the “unsinkable” ship were to start sinking it would take two or three days before the vessel would fully submerge, thus offering plenty of time to rescue everyone on board.Well, it did sink, and it only took two or three hours, not days. More than 1,500 passengers died. The crew of the Titanic was getting repeated warnings of icebergs ahead. But they were either “asleep” at the wheel or distracted by other events. Maybe they were arresting the ship’s bartender for watering down drinks. Regardless of the reason, they confidently forged ahead at a rapid speed.Like those mariners over one hundred years ago, the United States today is refusing to listen to danger warnings, especially from those who have been saying for most of President Jo...
